Jaquet Droz Boutique in Petrovsky Passage is the first single-brand boutique of the brand opened in Russia. Jaquet Droz workshop was established in Switzerland in1738 in a place called La Chaux-de-Fonds. The gained over the years and preserved experience is beyond comparison. It grew to one of the most prominent names in the modern watch-making due to the power of the unprecedented technical superiority and attention to creative aspects.
The founder of the company Pierre Jaquet Droz (1721–1790), a watchmaker, a jeweler, an inventor and an excellent merchant, was a genius who impressed engineers, court nobility and the royal persons, including Marie Antoinette presenting to the court his mechanical dolls able to draw and play the harpsichord. Some of them have been preserved. This is a memory of fairy-tale royal festivals or tender whisper of exquisite fabric of the clothing falling down during love rendezvous, where colors taken from the shimmer of gold and tinges of precious stones acquire unusual brightness.
Over the past centuries Jaquet Droz expanded the borders of the formal court life in a most generous and not excessive way. «Grande» pocket watch — a specimen of the IIXX century watch-making certified the above. The ivory back side holds two dial plates, one of them showing hours and minutes, and the other one — seconds. Their hands are shifted relative to the centre. The above design grew to a milestone in Jaquet Droz’ philosophy based on the irreproachable technique and refined and daring design. This philosophy is still defining the brand’s image today. These mechanical self-winding watches with two barrels present an outstanding work of precise engineering arrayed in precious materials.
The walls are trimmed up with manually crafted panels made of sandal and American beech. The pattern of the mosaic parquet coincides with the pattern of the halls of the Federal Palace in Bern. The cash register is situated on a counter trimmed up with steel and silver and repeats the design of a camp washbasin which was exchanged into one of the first models of Blancpain by the Dutch Crone Prince.
On glance at a watch by Jaquet Droz and you will learn the whole history. They can be compared to a work of art. The tailored and simple lines of these watches hide the treasures of ingenious design, many centuries of experience, technique of manual manufacturing of each element and an infinite search for the purity of line. Today, the luxury is vested in modesty and manufactured in a limited number of items.
