1951
Italy, Reggio Emilia. A brave young Italian man Achille Maramotti despite that the vogue is given away to the dictat of tailoring shops, presents the first pret-a-porter collection of his firm — Max Mara. He is brave but not at all adventurous. The idea is ingenious and, as often, quite simple — to produce top-grade industrial clothes, fashionable and stylish but comfortable and affordable.
If Achille Maramotti had written a book telling the story of his company in over 50 years, it could have become a best-seller on history of the Italian fashion.
This story began a long time ago, still in the end of the last century, when Achille' s great-grandmother perfectly sewed clothes for women. These skills are transferred from one generation to another. And so his mother sets up a professional sewing school. Her name was Marina Rinaldi.
This is why no financial success, no world-scale distribution of the brand (over 700 sales outlets all over the world) can erase the image of a good Grandma. And the time comes to give a name to a new clothing line Achille Maramotti gives it the name of his great-grandmother — Marina Rinaldi, putting in the kindest and most tender reminiscences of his childhood.
